Building Services
Building Services receives, reviews and processes applications for the many types of permits which are required, to ensure that construction and other regulated activities within the Town meet the standards set out in the Ontario Building Code Act and any other applicable law.
Common permits include Building, Plumbing, Sewer, Water, Demolition, Moving a Building, Swimming Pools, Temporary Event Tents & Signs.
In addition to specific permit fees, other fees or charges may be applicable, such as Town and Regional Development charges.
Permits are a vital step in the enforcement of codes and regulations. Permits MUST be obtained before any works or activities begin. Permits provide the means for the Town to ensure the health, safety and welfare of its citizens and visitors, while helping residents to understand what the local by-laws and regulations are. They enable municipal officials to review and inspect the works or activities authorized by the permits, to ensure that minimum standards are met.
Building Services also has the following duties:
- supervision of municipal building maintenance
- preparation of Statistics Canada reports
- administration and enforcement of Property Standards
