Join in a month of FREE classes and activities while you track your active minutes! Let's get moving and be active for at least 30 minutes for 30 days. Be part of the challenge whatever your skill level or ability! The ParticipACTION Community Challenge presented by Novo Nordisk.
Track your activity:
1. Track your active minutes on paper (your own or pick up a tracking sheet at the MCC after May 26) and submit your active minutes by phone or email at 905-732-7886 or rcwstudent@pelham.ca.
2. Track minutes directly on the ParticipACTION site.
All tracked activity counts toward ParticipACTION's Canada-wide challenge for the title of "Canada's Most Active Community," and a chance to WIN $100,000 to support local physical activity initiatives in Pelham!

* June 1: Public Skate! Time: 7:30 – 8:50 PM Location: Meridian Community Centre - 100 Meridian Way (Duliban) Lace up your skates and come to the Meridian Community Centre for a public skate! All abilities and all ages are welcome!
June 2: Explore the Steve Bauer Trail!
Let's take to the trails and stay active this June! Explore the Steve Bauer Trail!
June 3: 55+ Walk-a-thon! Time: 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM Location: Meridian Community Centre - Walking Track Lace up and join us to kickoff June 30 for 30, with our 55+ Walk-a-thon on Monday, June 3rd, 2024! Registration is required. Visit out walk-a-thon webpage for more details.
June 4: Go gardening!
Did you know the Town of Pelham is participating in the Communities in Bloom program? Judges will be evaluating gardens on July 11th. Visit our Communities in Bloom webpage for more information.
* June 5: Family Drop-In Gym!
Enjoy some family gym time and physical activity during drop-in family gym! During this time, families are encouraged to get active and have fun together!
* June 6: Tiny Tots Gym Time
Various stations will be set up in the gymnasium to allow for Tots to play and explore at their own pace. Equipment provided includes Toys, Walker, Tricycle, Play Mats, Parachute, Soccer nets, Balls, Tent and more!
June 7: Try Tennis!
No membership needed to come and try outdoor tennis at Centennial Park! Bring your own equipment.
* June 8: Public Skating!
Lace up your skates and come to the Meridian Community Centre for a public skate! All abilities and all ages are welcome!
June 9: Try Pickleball!
No membership needed to come and try outdoor pickleball at Centennial Park! Bring your own equipment. All abilities are welcome.
* June 10: 55+ Aerobics!
If you are looking to improve your health, fitness and energy through a fun, upbeat and motivating class, this is the one for you! Come and try 55+ Aerobics to improve your cardiovascular health, resistance and balance.
June 11: Check out the Isaac Riehl Memorial Skatepark!
Get outside and check out the Isaac Riehl Memorial Skatepark located in Marlene Stewart Streit Park. You can bike, skate, scoot, and rollerblade!
June 12: Explore the Gerry Berkhout Trail!
It's trail time! Did you know that the Gerry Berkhout Trail was an old Hamilton, Toronto, Buffalo rail line that the Town of Pelham purchased for $1 ? The Gerry Berkhout Trail runs from Murdoch Road to the edge of Centennial Park - a total of 6km in length!
June 13: Get active at Summerchill!
Come on out to this family friendly outing for all! Discover all the ways to "chill" in Pelham every Thursday!
* June 14: Make a splash at Marlene Stewart Streit Park!
Get outside and check out the pool located in Marlene Stewart Streit Park. Enjoy the sun in a supervised water environment.
June 15: Make a splash at Centennial Park!
Beat the heat and stay active at the same time! Make a splash and visit Pelham's splash pad at Centennial Park!
June 16: Explore the Steve Bauer Trail!
It's trail time! Explore the Steve Bauer Trail that runs for 6km through Fonthill and Welland.
* June 17: 55+ Aerobics! · Time: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM · Location: Meridian Community Centre - 100 Meridian Way If you are looking to improve your health, fitness and energy through a fun, upbeat and motivating class, this is the one for you! Come and try 55+ Aerobics to improve your cardiovascular health, resistance and balance!
June 18: Bust a move at Big Band!
Big Band Dance Night at the Meridian Community Centre features the Jimmy Marando Swing Band! Come out and dance from 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM to the best hits of the 30's through 70's!
June 19: Explore the John Nemy Trail!
The John Nemy Trail is 2.3 kilometres and perfect for both hiking and walking! Take to the trails and stay active!
June 20: Indigenous Vendor Market!
Explore Indigenous vendors in this expanded pop-up market as part of the Thursday Night Pelham Summer Chill experience!
June 21: Drumming with Josephine Lavalley!
Join us on National Indigenous Peoples Day for an in-person drumming presentation with Josephine Lavalley, Onondaga from Six Nations. The presentation will include a water ceremony with moon water, smudging, drumming, singing, and lots of interactive learning.
June 22: Splash Pad!
Join us at Marlene Stewart Streit Park to try out the splash pad! Beat the heat in a fun water environment.
June 23: Try pickleball!
No membership needed to come and try outdoor tennis at Centennial Park! Bring your own equipment.
* June 24: Lift & Sweat!
Lift and sweat it out at the Meridian Community Centre from 7:00 to 8:00 PM! Take a little time to yourself while strengthening your body. All abilities and levels are welcome!
June 25: Try Baseball!
Did you know Centennial Park has 3 baseball diamonds that can be used throughout the summer? Stop by to try out the game!
* June 26: Aqua Zumba!
Join Lynne at Marlene Stewart Streit Park from 5:00 - 6:00 PM for Aqua Zumba! Aqua Zumba blends the Zumba philosophy with water resistance, creating a pool party you shouldn’t miss!
* June 27: Chair Yoga!
A gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting on a chair or standing using a chair for support. Chair yoga is the perfect way for seniors to discover yoga.
* June 28: Drop-In Volleyball!
Drop- in to the Meridian Community Centre to play a game of volleyball with friends!
June 29: Tennis & Pickleball!
Stop by the Centennial Park tennis and pickleball courts during community access time to try out the sport! All abilities are welcome.
* June 30: Public Skating!
Lace up your skates and come to the Meridian Community Centre for a public skate! All abilities and all ages are welcome!

Lace up and join us to kickoff June 30 for 30, with our 55+ Walk-a-thon on Monday, June 3rd, 2024! Stop by to have a coffee or tea, pick up your tracking sheet, some goodies and then get those steps in with some friends! All tracked and submitted activity counts towards ParticipACTION's Canada-wide challenge for the title of "Canada's Most Active Community", so let's show them what Pelham's got!

How to track? |
Tracking is simple and can be done however works best for you!Enter minutes direction on the ParticipACTION website! Track your minutes on a paper calendar and call in to report their activity weekly! All tracked minutes must be submitted prior to 5:00PM on June 30th to be counted. |
What to track? |
The challenge is open to all organizations, schools, sport groups and workplaces to participate and track minutes as a team. All group physical activity counts. Track group exercise classes, practices, events or even lunchtime walks starting June 1.
Every minute tracked goes toward your community’s score and adds to the Pelham June 30 for 30 challenge! |
What are move minutes? |
Move minutes are the time during which an individual engages in either active or light physical activity. An individual’s valid move minutes will count towards the June 30 for 30 Challenge. Move minutes can accumulate individually or through community events, groups or associations. Any group physical activity can be tracked by the organization. By way of example, ongoing recreation activities such as a group fitness class at a recreation centre, an outdoor hike, a school gym class or an individual challenge to participants such as biking throughout the month of June are all eligible for tracking. |
What activity counts? |
The goal of the Community Better Challenge and Pelham's own June 30 for 30 is to get the community moving with others from across Canada! As a result, we haven’t set parameters on how intense your activity needs to be. From walking to the grocery store to backyard spring cleaning, we want you to track it all!
In terms of duration, every minute counts! The shortest duration of activity you can track is one minute, while the longest is 180 minutes. |

You can register your organization or group directly on the ParticipACTION website, your totals will be added to the June 30 for 30 Challenge with the Town of Pelham based on the postal code entered.

The ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge is a national physical activity initiative that encourages Canadians to get active in search of Canada's Most Active Community. Pelham is getting moving with the June 30 for 30 Challenge!
It is open to everyone and all minutes tracked on the website from June 1 – 30 count toward a community’s total score. After June 30, 50 finalist communities will be invited to submit an application explaining why they deserve to be Canada's Most Active Community.
At the conclusion of the challenge, one community will earn the top prize of $100,000 and title of being Canada’s Most Active Community. In addition to the national winner, there will also be prizing for the most active community in each province and territory. Now, more than ever, physical activity and sport participation need to be prioritized to help Canadians stay healthy in mind, body, and community spirit. The Town of Pelham is participating in the Community Better Challenge with the June 30 for 30! For the month of June, all Pelham residents are encouraged to get active and track their physical activity to achieve the goal of moving at least 30 min for 30 days!
Walk, bike, hike, run, garden, walk the dog, house cleaning ... anytime you are active counts!Make sure to track and report your activity so Pelham can be in the running to be Canada's Most Active Community! The Challenge was originally started in June of 2021 and has continued to encourage active lifestyles in Pelham each year with the annual event. |
