Confirmed case of mumps in Niagara

Niagara Region Public Health has identified the first infection of mumps in Niagara.

Mumps is a viral infection of the salivary glands, that is spread person-to-person through coughing, sneezing, talking or coming into contact with a person’s saliva (i.e. sharing drinks and food, kissing). 

 Symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Swelling and pain in one or more salivary glands (sides of cheeks and jaw)
  • Headache
  • Muscle aches
  • Fatigue

Street sweeping is set to begin in Pelham shortly and will be completed by approximately May 19, 2017. Residents are asked to please NOT park on streets during sweeping operations.
