Flags lowered to half-mast in observance of National Day of Mourning April 28, 2024

In observance of the National Day of Mourning occuring on Sunday, April 28th, the flags in the Town of Pelham have been lowered to half-mast and will remain lowered until April 29th.

Residents are encouraged to take time on April 28, to pause, reflect, and remember those who lost their lives or suffered an injury or illness due to their workplace and to renew the commitment to creating safer workplaces. 

According to the Association of Workers' Compensation Boards of Canada (AWCBC), 2022, there were 993 workplace fatalities recorded in Canada. Among these deaths were 33 young workers aged 15-24. With each worker tragedy there are loved ones, family members, friends and co-workers who are directly affected, left behind, and deeply impacted – their lives also forever changed.

The National Day of Mourning has been recognized since April 28, 1991. The National Day of Mourning is observed worldwide and has since spread to about 100 countries around the world.
