Pelham Goes Green for Earth Day 2025

Press release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 2, 2025

Pelham, ON –  The Town of Pelham is excited to announce Earth Week 2025, taking place from April 20 to 26. This week-long event will focus on green initiatives aimed at fostering environmental sustainability within the community. Highlights include a ceremonial tree planting with Earth Day Canada on April 22 and a community-wide clean-up, eco-expo and rain barrel pick-up on April 26.

This year, Pelham has been selected as the spokesperson for Earth Day Canada’s Mobilizing Municipalities movement, emphasizing Pelham's commitment to biodiversity and sustainable actions. Residents are encouraged to participate by making eco-friendly choices on Earth Day and beyond, reinforcing the community’s commitment to combating climate change and promoting ecological transition.

"There are many ways residents can contribute during Earth Week by making small changes that positively impact the environment, such as using a rain barrel," said Kristina Clint, Manager of Recreation, Culture and Wellness.

As part of the "Go Green" initiative, residents can purchase subsidized rain barrels for $40. These barrels collect chlorine-free water from downspouts, providing an eco-friendly solution for garden and lawn care. Pelham households may pre-order up to two barrels, while supplies last, with pick-up available on Saturday, April 26, at the Meridian Community Centre during the eco-event and community clean-up.

The community clean-up invites residents to help remove litter from local streets, parks, and playgrounds throughout the week. Participants can join at any time or focus on the final day, April 26, alongside the eco-expo. Registered volunteers will receive supplies to support their efforts, and early registration is encouraged.

On April 22, residents can tune into “Niagara in the Morning” on 610 CKTB for the round-table morning show broadcasting live from Pelham. Town staff and community partners will be connecting about green projects and programs.
