Town of Pelham Fire Department receives $35,775 Grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 6, 2023
Pelham, ON – The Town of Pelham has received $35,775 in funding from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation to ensure first responders have the necessary equipment to keep community members and themselves safe.
The Pelham Fire Department is one of only 12 organizations across Ontario to receive the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation grant this fall. The grant will purchase two new washer extractor units for Pelham Fire Station 1 in Fonthill and Station 3 in North Pelham, fulfilling a critical need within the department. The two new washer extractor units will provide more efficient and effective gear decontamination for Pelham’s volunteer firefighters, replacing a dated unit at Station 1 and installing, for the first time, a unit at Station 3.
“On behalf of the Pelham Fire Department and its members, I want to thank the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada and our local Firehouse Subs in Welland for recognizing our needs and awarding funding to provide this equipment,” said Town of Pelham Fire Chief Bob Lymburner. “Providing first responders with the right equipment is crucial for them to successfully and safely do their jobs.”
The Town of Pelham Fire Services department has 97 volunteer firefighters serving the community from three stations in Fonthill, Fenwick and North Pelham. The department responds to approximately 700 calls within Pelham each year, which include vehicular collisions, medical, mutual aid and fire calls.
In 2005, the Firehouse Subs Founders established the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation in the U.S. with the mission of providing funding, lifesaving equipment and educational opportunities for first responders and public safety organizations. With the opening of the first Canadian Firehouse Subs restaurant in 2015, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada was born. The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada has awarded 331 grants worth more than $3.2 million to public safety organizations throughout Ontario since 2015.
