National Anthem Performances

The Town of Pelham invites residents and those with close ties to our community to showcase their talent, foster civic pride, and engage with their community by performing the national anthem at the start of Regular Council Meetings.

Eligibility

Who Can Apply?

  • Soloists, groups, and choirs of all ages.
  • Groups or choirs must be based in Pelham, with at least one permanent Pelham resident as a member.

Applications from the following will not be considered:

  • Political parties or organizations.
  • Commercial entities.
  • Groups or individuals promoting hatred, violence, or racism.
  • Those violating the Ontario Human Rights Code or the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

How to Apply

  • Submit an Application Form.
  • Include Your Recording:
    • Upload a high-quality video or audio recording of your performance of O Canada.
    • If selected, this recording will be used for playback.

Selection Process

  • Applications are reviewed by the Town Clerk in consultation with the Chief Administrative Officer.
  • Successful applicants will be contacted and scheduled for upcoming meetings.
  • Re-Apply Every Three Years

Performance Details

Performances will be pre-recorded and included at the beginning of Regular Council Meetings. Recordings will also be streamed on the Town’s YouTube channel and may be rebroadcast on television.

Important Information

  • Approximately 21 Regular Council Meetings occur annually.
  • If fewer than four (4) applicants are selected, an instrumental version of O Canada will be used.
  • Performances must follow the official modified 2018 lyrics in either English or bilingual (English and French) versions.
  • Recordings must contain only the national anthem, with no additional material.
  • No financial compensation will be provided.

Records Retention: The Town will keep recordings for five (5) years as per the Town’s Record Retention By-law.
