FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 22, 2023
Pelham, ON – Council for the Town of Pelham has approved the 2023 Water and Wastewater budgets at their February 21 meeting of council. The budget process begins in the late summer of each year and is finalized with the annual approval.
The Town of Pelham Council has approved the 2023 rates as a 6.5% increase in the water rate and a 9.5% increase in the wastewater rate. The rates are in effect as of January 1, 2023, and utility bills are provided to residents every two months. The 2023 rate impact for an average household will have an estimated annual increase of $80.90 equating to a $6.74 increase monthly.
“Even after these necessary increases, the Town of Pelham continues to have the lowest rates in the Niagara Region municipalities while building reserves,” said Town of Pelham Director of Corporate Services and Treasurer Teresa Quinlin-Murphy.
Water and wastewater services are not financed through property taxes. The municipality of the Town of Pelham must raise sufficient water and sewer revenues to recover operational costs and required upkeep. Residents will receive the “understanding your utility billing” reference, including details on how to read their meters with their next utility billing.
