FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Pelham, ON – The Town of Pelham moves forward with the decision to remove access to the social media application TikTok on all corporate-issued devices and internet networks at all Town facilities.
"The privacy and cyber-security of staff, residents, and visitors to the Town are critical," said Town of Pelham CAO David Cribbs. "It is imperative that we take this precautionary measure to ensure the Town continues to manage the risks faced from cybersecurity."
As of Monday, March 27, 2023, anyone visiting The Town of Pelham facilities cannot access TikTok while connected to Pelham's wired or wireless networks. The blocking of the application is a proactive and precautionary measure due to the concerns over TikTok's data collection methods and their access to the contents on devices and networking protocols.
The decision aligns with the direction of the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario, and other local municipalities across the province, that have also issued bans on the popular social media platform.
Pelham previously did not utilize the TikTok platform as a corporate communications tool. The Town will continue to share information through its dedicated website and Facebook, Twitter and Instagram social media platforms.
