Pelham knows how to throw a party! The Town of Pelham and the Pelham Summerfest Committee are pleased to announce that Pelham Summerfest —the Town’s signature event— has been recognized by Festivals and Events Ontario as one of 2015’s Top 100 Festivals and Events in Ontario.
"Council and I are thrilled that Festivals & Events Ontario highlighted Pelham Summerfest as one of the Province's 100 Best!" said Mayor Dave Augustyn. "Congratulations and thanks to the dedicated volunteers and sponsors. I encourage all to attend this year's Summerfest from July 16 to 19."
In the fall off 2014, the Pelham Summerfest Committee submitted an application to Festivals and Events Ontario (FEO) for consideration by an independent panel of judges. Festivals and events of all kinds from every corner of Ontario were represented in the submissions – from community festivals to internationally recognized events. Throughout Ontario, there are more than 3,000 festivals and events staged each year and FEO recognizes the Top 100 that excel within the industry.
Pelham Summerfest was selected based on the following criteria:
ability to attract visitors regionally, provincially and/or nationally
audience involvement
quality experience (cultural, heritage, enrichment)
uniqueness of event
economic impact to the community
contribution to the community
being an annual festival/event in operation for at least 3 years and the following year
The 2015 Top 100 Awards were given out on Friday, March 6, 2015 during FEO’s Annual Conference Let the Inspiration Flow in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
What began in 2011 as a single day to celebrate the completion of Downtown Fonthill's beautification has grown to four days of free family fun that includes music and entertainment for all ages, children’s activities, retail and food vendors, arts, crafts, wine garden, beer pavilion and Sunday breakfast in Peace Park.
This July 16-19 Pelham Summerfest once again captures the true community spirit of Pelham as residents and visitors, friends, neighbours and family are invited to Come Chill on the Hill together to explore our lively and walkable downtown. Remember to bring your family, your sunscreen, your lawn chairs and your dancing shoes! For more information about Pelham Summerfest visit pelhamsummerfest.ca or e-mail summerfest@pelham.ca.
A special thank you to all the community volunteers who work year-round to help bring this award-winning event to Pelham, especially the Pelham Summerfest Committee consisting of Gary Accursi, Pelham Council; Todd Barber, Downtown Beautification Committee; Bea Clark, Pelham Active Transportation Committee; Kathleen Goodman, Welland/Pelham Chamber of Commerce; John Wink, Pelham Business Association; and Vickie vanRavenswaay, Town of Pelham. Congratulations to all!
