Pelham, ON – The Town of Pelham has received $8,000 in funding from the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation to support a community tree planting in Marlene Stewart Streit Park.
Pelham residents are invited to bring their shovels and join in the planting beginning at 11 a.m. on November 24. The event will be rain or shine, and appropriate outdoor clothing is recommended. Town of Pelham forestry specialists will assist with the planting following a brief demonstration. Community partners will collaborate with the planting, and educational signs will be installed following the planting to raise awareness of the importance of the tree canopy and the inclusion of native species.
"The Town of Pelham is proud to expand the tree canopy in Marlene Stewart Streit Park with the addition of 65 native plants," said Town of Pelham's Seniors and Community Services Programmer Katie Kilbreath. "We're excited to invite residents to join in activities like this planting that positively impact the community."
The planting in Marlene Steward Streit Park will also work towards achieving Pelham's Strategic Plan target of "Tree Canopy and Reforestation" within the environmental and climate adaptation focus area."
"As a longtime supporter of environmental initiatives, TD is committed to helping elevate the quality of the environment so people and economies can thrive," says Carolyn Scotchmer, Executive Director of TD Friends of the Environment Foundation. "That's why we are proud to provide a grant to the Town of Pelham for community tree planting. Together, we aim to help foster a love for nature and inspire a sense of responsibility for the well-being of our planet."
