Pelham, ON – Town of Pelham area youth with financial need will be able to attend summer camp with $1,333 in support from the Niagara Community Foundation Summer Camp grant.
The grant, applied for by the Town of Pelham in partnership with Pelham Cares, allows several families who have financial need to enroll in a summer camp experience with the Town. The funding supports children between the ages of four and 12 to enable them to participate in a weeklong day camp full of programming, including trips to local parks, splash pads and field trips to area attractions.
"This funding will allow the Town to offer the joy of camp to youth who may not otherwise be able to attend," explained Town of Pelham Active Living Programmer Brittany MacLeod. "Access to the funding is essential, and feedback from the families who benefited from the NCF Summer Camp Grant has been extremely positive."
The Niagara Community Foundation Summer Camp program helps Niagara children in financial need participate in various camping and recreation experiences. The grant funding allows youth to develop new skills while having fun at camp.
"Summer Camps make an impact not only on a child's summer but on the family as a whole," says Executive Director of Niagara Community Foundation Bryan Rose. "It is our privilege to support partners like the Town of Pelham, who are able to provide a great week of community-building for kids, and support for families who need it most."
Established in 2000, Niagara Community Foundation has raised over $76 million. It has granted over $24 million to charities in the arts, heritage, environment, social services, health, education and community development sectors. NCF connects donors to communities and charities to resources, turning intention into impact.
Pelham Cares provides subsidies to area youth through a program that enables participation in sports and recreational activities. The assistance is available to all client families registered with Pelham Cares who meet the program's eligibility requirements.
"The Pelham Cares youth subsidy, that is often requested by families, is limited," explained Jennifer Dube, the Office Manager at Pelham Cares. "We have families who struggle in the summer with childcare, and having additional grant funding available furthers the support we can offer."
