Pelham, ON – The Town of Pelham is expanding opportunities for area youth interested in the arts by introducing a new after-school drama program at the Meridian Community Centre.
The 8-week series of high-energy drama games and activities will take place in partnership with Carousel Players, who have been providing youth drama experiences for over 50 years. Professional artist educators will engage and inspire participants to develop empathy, work collaboratively, and gain confidence through drama. Youth aged 6 to 11 will be able to grow their skills while engaging in fun team-building exercises and opportunities to perform.
"Carousel Players, a theatre for young audiences, is excited to bring the benefits of drama to Pelham," said Elizabeth Pereira, education co-ordinator for Carousel Players. "Join us in our After-School Drama Program as we enter imaginary worlds and make new friends through improvisation, storytelling, and more!"
The after-school drama sessions will be offered for two age groups with up to 12 participants per class. The Thursday evening sessions are an hour long, and a $100 registration fee applies. Registration is open for Pelham residents and will be available to those who reside outside Pelham on February 8, 2023.
"The goal of this new program addition is to provide opportunities for Pelham youth to gain experiences that will foster and grow a love of the arts," said Brittany MacLeod, active living programmer at the Town of Pelham. "An opportunity to partner with Carousel Players was a perfect fit to expand and meet residents' requests for more activities in arts and culture in Pelham."
